The police initiated an investigation following information from a recent inquiry by the National Criminal Investigation Department, in which a former municipal official from Amsterdam was suspected of leaking information from government systems. It was determined that this information was passed on to unauthorized third parties, including a so-called information broker in the criminal environment.
The National Investigation and Interventions Unit conducted further research, under the authority of the National Prosecutors Office, and was able to arrest the suspected information broker at Schiphol on Tuesday afternoon, May 20. Additionally, the police searched three locations in Amsterdam, seizing two luxury cars and branded watches. Over 4 kilograms of narcotics, presumably amphetamines, and a significant amount of cannabis buds were also found.
On Wednesday, the case was assessed by the council chamber. The suspect will remain in custody for another 90 days.
