A 54-year-old man received a call on Wednesday afternoon from a so-called bank employee. He was asked about a loan that was supposedly requested, and police officers would come to collect his bank card. The man and his partner did not trust it and called the police. The two fake officers were apprehended in the vicinity. One is a 38-year-old man from Wageningen and the other is a 29-year-old man from Arnhem. The follow-up investigation into these suspects and others involved is ongoing.

Do not let them in, no matter what they come up with

Scams are excuses that criminals use to try to defraud people. The scammers often appear trustworthy. They call, come to the door, or approach people on the street with a nice excuse. They then ask questions about money and other valuable possessions. A real officer or bank employee will never call or come to the door to collect items like jewelry, cash, or a bank card. The police advise always to call 112 if a (suspected) scammer calls or if a (suspected) scammer is at the door. The police can then check if it is a scam. This increases the chance of an immediate arrest. Additionally, it helps the police to get and maintain a picture of this type of crime.
