Vigilance and Quick Alarm
The children of the elderly woman suddenly saw strange transactions happening on their mothers bank account on Tuesday evening. They didnt trust it and checked the cameras at their mothers house. On the camera footage, they saw a young man standing at their mothers door. The children became suspicious and immediately alerted the police. The police rushed to the womans house. Inside, they found the young man from Amsterdam. He was immediately arrested. The suspect had a lot of cash on him. When searching his car, a large amount of cash was also found.
The victim indicated that she had received a call earlier that evening from a so-called bank employee with the familiar excuse that something was wrong with her bank account. To help her, a bank employee would come to her door. Shortly after, the 19-year-old man indeed stood at her door. Thanks to the vigilance of her children, who quickly alerted the police, it was fortunately prevented that her bank account was completely emptied.

Starting in early 2024, the police in Midden-Nederland will also visit victims of digital crime. Starting this week, the police across the Netherlands will respond quickly to reports of online crime, such as bank helpdesk fraud. Victims will receive appropriate help faster. This also increases the chances of apprehending the perpetrators. This case shows how important it is to report to the police so that we can act quickly.
