On the evening of Tuesday, December 16, a passerby saw two men walking on Kerkstraat in Riel. The passerby noticed that one of the men was carrying an object resembling a firearm. Emergency services were called immediately by dialing 112. Officers rushed to the scene wearing bulletproof vests. The police searched the entire neighborhood but did not find anyone at that time.
New tip
On Wednesday, December 17, around 3:00 PM, the police received a tip about the two men. The informant reported that the two men, previously seen with a firearm, were now at Alphenseweg in Riel. Officers again rushed to that location.
The police arrested two men. In a residence, the police found two imitation firearms. Both men are in custody. One is a 34-year-old man from Poland and the other is a 34-year-old man without a fixed residence or place of stay.
