Inside the car was a father with his two children. The entire side of the car was dented and scraped, the windows were broken, and the rear tire was flat. Miraculously, the three occupants had escaped serious injury. The perpetrator of the accident had abandoned his car and fled on foot.
More Accidents
It turned out that more cars had been affected by the reckless driving of the man. On Ettensebaan and Nestelmakerstraat, two cars were also damaged because the previously unknown driver had crashed into them. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured here either.
The driver who was hit on Ettensebaan had followed the perpetrator and saw him driving away faster. At one point, he ended up on the wrong side of the road and crashed into another car. This gentleman filed a report, as did the woman who collided with the suspect on Nestelmakerstraat.
Suspect Had Hidden
While the officers were speaking with the victims, suddenly the suspect emerged from the bushes. The involved parties identified him as the perpetrator of the accidents, and the man was handcuffed and arrested. He was taken to a police detention center. He will be questioned later today. The man, 35 years old and from Roosendaal, underwent a breathalyzer test. It turned out he had not been drinking. An indicative saliva test indicated that he might have been under the influence of cannabis. Since the amount could not be demonstrated by the police, blood was taken from the man. That blood will be sent to the Netherlands Forensic Institute for further analysis. Before the results are known, some time will pass, so we do not yet have an answer to the question of how impaired the man was.
Trauma Bear
The understandably very shocked children were given a so-called Trauma Bear by the officers on site. This is handed out by the police when children have experienced a traumatic event.
