Several bystanders witnessed the collision. The victim was resuscitated by them. The resuscitation was later taken over by the police; unfortunately, all attempts were in vain. The victim died on the spot. The area where the accident occurred was cordoned off with tape. Officers conducted an investigation and took witness statements. They also had the driver undergo a breath and saliva test. He was found not to have consumed alcohol, but the preliminary saliva test indicated that he may have been under the influence of drugs. The man was arrested and taken to the police station. A public health doctor took blood from the man there. This will be analyzed by the NFI, as it is important for the investigation to know how much influence the man was under at the time of the collision.
Investigation
The Traffic Team is investigating the circumstances of the accident. To support this investigation, various traces were searched for and secured on Wednesday evening. Visual recordings were also made of the location where the collision occurred. The trace investigation lasted well into the evening. Until then, the cordons were also in effect.
Suspect Remains in Custody
The drivers license of the motorist has been confiscated; the man is not allowed to operate a motor vehicle for the time being. The public prosecutor will determine whether and when he will get his drivers license back. The man from Breda remains in custody. He will be questioned by the police on Thursday. The passenger car the man was driving has been seized, as well as the victims bicycle. Forensic Investigation from the Traffic Team will conduct investigations on both vehicles.
