At around 8:30 PM, the police received a report of a collision between a car and a motorcycle, where the driver of the car had fled the scene. Fortunately, the motorcyclist was not injured.
Several witnesses provided a description of the vehicle and the woman behind the wheel. While officers were handling the accident, a witness approached them to inform that the suspected driver was watching from across the street. When an officer attempted to speak with her, the woman became aggressive. The officer was injured in the process and had to be checked at the hospital later.
Arrest
The woman was arrested on suspicion of serious assault on a public official, leaving the scene of an accident, and resistance. A saliva test was conducted on the suspect, which came back positive. She was presumably under the influence of drugs. A blood test was taken to investigate this further. The suspect is still in custody and will be interrogated later today.
Did you film anything?
The police are looking for footage of both the traffic accident and the assault. If you have footage of this, we kindly ask you to share it with the police. This can be done via the form below.
Core Message GTPA Against Police
Violence against police officers during and outside working hours is unacceptable, and every incident is one too many. We do not accept crossing that line. For years, the police, together with the Public Prosecution Service, has been implementing a strong (communication) policy regarding violence against police officers and other emergency workers.
The police prioritize investigations of violence against emergency workers, and the policy of the Public Prosecution Service aims to demand much harsher penalties. Colleagues who encounter violence can count on maximum support from the organization. Police officers work to de-escalate when possible. But when necessary, we step forward and do not shy away from confrontation; for the safety of emergency workers and citizens.
