The Supervisory Committee on Data Protection BES (CBP BES) has recently started a programmatic oversight on compliance with the privacy statement at the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND).
In the past two years, CBP BES has drawn attention within organizations in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba to the importance of a clear privacy statement. With its oversight on the adequate implementation of the privacy statement, CBP BES takes a step further and checks whether organizations actually operate according to what they have included in their privacy statement.
The oversight at the IND is the first step within a broader deployment of CBP BES. The committee assesses how organizations handle personal data and whether they comply with legal requirements.
“It is important that people can trust that their personal data is handled carefully,” says the head of CBP BES. “That is why we actively check whether organizations do what they state in their privacy statement.”
