The first application period of the new grant scheme for social initiatives related to the slavery past opens today.

Foundations and associations can submit a grant application during the first application period for the professionalization of their organization (category 1). This can be done by:

  • attending a training, course, or workshop for board members or staff of their organization, and/or;
  • building or improving their website to increase the reach of their projects.

The grant amount in the first period for the Caribbean part of the Kingdom is a fixed amount of $10,000.

Apologies

The grant scheme is one of the actions following the apologies for the Dutch slavery past offered by the Prime Minister on December 19, 2022. For the grant scheme, a budget of over €29.3 million is available for the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.

In total, there are eight application rounds for four different grants, spread over three years, in which organizations can apply for funding for projects that contribute to awareness, recognition, and remembrance, and a better understanding of the impact of the slavery past and its processing. A next period for submitting applications for projects between $10,000 and $25,000 (category 2) will open on December 1, 2025, at 09:00 CET, and close on January 12, 2026, at 17:00 CET.
