The Caribbean Netherlands Fire Corps (BKCN) has trained ten new commanders for Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba. The new commanders are trained to lead the team in difficult situations, such as fires, accidents, or other emergencies.
The commanders underwent an intensive training program to prepare for leading during various incidents. They trained in firefighting, assistance during accidents, and safely handling hazardous materials. Subsequently, they followed an additional training for aircraft firefighting, which was completed in April with two practical days.
The Training & Exercises department of BKCN organized the entire program for all participants in Bonaire, where experienced instructors from BKCN, supported by a teacher from the Royal Air Force, conducted the lessons. An expert committee of fire professionals from Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Curaçao administered the exams.
For Saba, this is a special moment. The two successful commanders from the island are not only women but also the first female commanders of Saba. Two participants from Sint Eustatius also earned their diploma. The remaining six successful candidates come from Bonaire.
The new commanders will continue to train actively so they can respond quickly and effectively in emergencies. BKCN continues to invest in the development of fire professionals, thereby contributing to safety in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba.
