This year, more subsidies for the maintenance of national monuments have been requested than are available, so it is good news that caretaker minister Bruins is increasing the budgets for the maintenance subsidy this year by € 15.78 million. The Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) is currently busy assessing the subsidy applications for the Maintenance Subsidy Regulation (Sim), which were submitted between February 1 and March 31 of this year.
Budget Increases
The budget increases were already announced in the Parliamentary letter regarding the approach to large monuments and religious heritage that the minister sent to the House of Representatives on June 2.
The budget increases have now been processed in a amendment to the maintenance regulation.
The total budget increase amounts to € 15.78 million. Of this, € 3.5 million goes to archaeological monuments and € 7.28 million to built monuments in the ‘large’ category. Specifically for large church buildings (rebuilding value of more than € 8.3 million), the budget is increased by € 5 million.
These budget increases come on top of the increases that were published on November 7. This brings the total budget for maintenance subsidies this year to € 113.9 million. This budget is distributed as follows:
- Archaeological monuments: € 4.3 million
- Green monuments: € 14.5 million
- Built monuments: € 91.2 million (this includes the budget for large church buildings)
- Sustainability research: € 3.9 million
Despite the extra money, an over-request is still expected this year. Unfortunately, some applications will have to be rejected. However, thanks to the extra money, this number will significantly decrease.
