The availability and reliability of our digital infrastructure are no longer a given. Due to increasing geopolitical tensions and growing dependence on foreign technology, the digital resilience of the Netherlands is under pressure. This requires extra efforts from the Digital Infrastructure Inspectorate (RDI). The regulator outlines this and more in its Multi-Year Plan 2026–2030.
The Netherlands is highly dependent on digital systems, products, and services – often provided by parties outside the European Union. This makes our society vulnerable. Risks include cloud storage abroad, insecure AI systems, and digital products insufficiently protected against cyberattacks.
The RDI sees it as its task to make the Netherlands more resilient against these risks. It does so by supervising vital networks, information systems, and the cybersecurity of products and services. Additionally, the RDI monitors the use of the frequency spectrum, for example by ensuring that Defense has sufficient frequency space to respond adequately to hybrid and military threats.
The RDI Multi-Year Plan 2026–2030 provides insight into the main trends and risks in the near future and the choices facing the Netherlands and the RDI. It forms the guideline for RDIs supervision in the coming years. The geopolitical dynamics call for joint, targeted efforts — from all of us, each from our own role and responsibility.
