From December 18, 2025, a speed reduction and a ban on transport heavier than 45 tons will apply on the Kamperhoekweg viaduct (Swifterbant exit (12) of the A6). The emergency lane will also be closed. These measures are necessary for the safety of traffic on and under the viaduct.
Tooth-crest construction
The viaduct at Kamperhoekweg has a so-called tooth-crest construction. This is a method to connect bridge parts. Research shows that the steel reinforcement in the concrete, as designed in the past, ages faster than planned.
Measures for Kamperhoekweg Viaduct
To ensure safety on and under the viaduct, we are taking three measures. The speed limit will be reduced from 90 km/h to 70 km/h, a weight limit of maximum 45 tons will be set, and the emergency lane on the viaduct will be closed.
Transport heavier than 45 tons is no longer allowed to use the Kamperhoekweg viaduct. This transport can detour via Lelystad-Noord exit (11) and should allow for 15 minutes extra travel time.
Disruption on A6
The measures take effect on December 18, 2025. Traffic signs will be placed for this. This may cause about 30 minutes of extra travel time. Additionally, in January 2026, barriers (physical separations) will be placed to close off the emergency lane. The exact date for this will be announced later.
For placing the barriers, Swifterbant exit (12) will be temporarily closed. During the closure, road users can detour via Lelystad-Noord exit (11). Allow for 15 minutes extra travel time. Traffic on the A6 will not be affected.
It is still unclear how long the measures will be needed. Meanwhile, we are investigating when the viaduct will be (partially) replaced.
