All lanes on the A12 and the Nieuwegein (16) ramp of the A12 towards Arnhem reopened to traffic on Thursday, December 18, 2025. Since the start of the works, narrowed lanes were available and the ramp was closed due to the renovation of the Galecopper Bridge.

At the end of November 2025, the work island between the main carriageway and the parallel lane was removed. Traffic can now drive over the bridge in the usual way, without the 70 km/h speed limit.

Renovation on the bridge is complete

The Nieuwegein (16) ramp was reopened early on the morning of Thursday, December 18. Ellie Eggengoor, mobility alderman of the municipality of Nieuwegein: ‘This is good news for many residents of Nieuwegein, as they had to detour for a long time. As a municipality, we are therefore happy that the ramp can be used again.’

Rudy Klunder, environmental manager at Rijkswaterstaat: ‘The use of all normal lanes almost feels like widening the bridge. But the renovation on the bridge is complete. However, work is still taking place under the bridge. For this, the bridge will still have to be closed several times in 2026. We would like to thank all road users for their patience and understanding during the execution.’

Finishing works Galecopper Bridge

During this renovation, Rijkswaterstaat renewed the steel suspension cables of the Galecopper Bridge towards Arnhem. In the coming months, finishing works will take place under the bridge deck. The replacement of the stays of the Galecopper Bridge is one of the many projects of the major renewal task we face.
