A special event on Saturday, June 28, 2025: 10 residents from the region visited the Spijkenisser Bridge for a tour given by Public Works and Water Management. They saw up close the moving works in the concrete pillars of the bridge that lift the sections up and down, and what work is needed for the current renovation.
The tour was organized following a call in the newsletter of the Spijkenisser Bridge: readers could win a visit to the bridge. 13-year-old Jachin from Hoogvliet was one of the lucky ones. I thought it was super cool, he said afterwards back in the construction hut. You can see well how the bridge is put together, like the cables that lift the bridge up and down.
Mother Willeke: Impressive what equipment and electrical cables are in the bridge. And what needs to be done for this renovation.
Looking at Bridges with Different Eyes
Ariane from Zuidland also enjoyed the tour. From the outside, you dont see how complex the bridge is and what is involved in this renovation. From now on, when I drive over the bridge, I will look at it with very different eyes.
Robbert Geers, technical advisor at Public Works and Water Management, conducted the two tours in groups of 5. Both groups were very enthusiastic and asked many questions, young and old. That made the visit very successful.
