The Buitenhuizer Bridge will be opened for shipping on Friday, April 18, 2025. To allow further passage in both directions, the nearby Bridge in the A9 Spaarndam (over Side Channel C) will be opened subsequently.
The operating times are as follows:
- 19:15 Bridge in the A9 Spaarndam (over Side Channel C) towards North Sea Canal
- 19:45 Buitenhuizer Bridge
- 20:15 Bridge in the A9 Spaarndam (over Side Channel C) towards Haarlem
Current Status of Malfunction
The analysis of the malfunction unfortunately did not provide a definitive cause. The investigation is ongoing. The analysis shows that the bridge is still unreliable but can be safely opened locally.
Impact on Shipping
We are investigating the possibility of opening the bridge more frequently for shipping from May 2025. These openings require the deployment of specialized personnel on-site and depend on technical and operational feasibility. We are currently working on a schedule.
The situation remains largely unchanged:
- The clearance height remains limited to a maximum of 6.82 m (Channel Level).
- Ships lower than 6.82 m can pass without hindrance.
- Sailing ships taller than 6.82 m can use the (eastern) Standing Mast Route to the North Sea Canal via Amsterdam from April 15.
Keep an eye on Waterway Information for updates on the exact times of the spring opening and any future openings.
Impact on Road Traffic (N202)
Depending on the number of ships in front of the bridge on April 18, the waiting time for road traffic on the N202 may be longer than during a regular bridge opening.
