The planning for the restoration of the ferry buffer of the Coen Bridge is currently being developed. The expectation is that the necessary replacement of parts will be completed by September 4, 2025. Until the ferry buffer is replaced, the Coen Bridge will remain closed for high shipping and the northern Standing Mast Route in North Holland will not be navigable.

In addition to the restoration of the ferry buffer, work is also being done to prepare for the installation of soundproofing panels. A total of 1,200 panels will be installed. This work will be carried out after the shipping season to minimize disruption to navigation. The bridge cannot be operated during the work. The work is expected to start in November and will last approximately 4 weeks. The situation will not cause any disruption to road traffic on the A8.

Be Prepared to Go on the Water

Safe sailing requires good preparation. On the website Navigation Information you can find out when locks and bridges are operated and whether there are planned or unplanned disruptions.

On May 4, 2021, a malfunction occurred at the Coen Bridge on the A8 causing severe damage to the moving parts of the bridge. As a result, the bridge has not been able to open since then. This damage was repaired starting January 20, 2025. Among other things, the bridge flap and the rotating parts of the bridge have been repaired.

The Coen Bridge was expected to be operated for high shipping on July 11, 2025. Unfortunately, during the last tests, a technical problem was identified in the material used for the ferry buffer, preventing shipping higher than 6.20 m from using this route.

More information about the project can be found on the page A8 Coen Bridge: No Operation.
