The Coen Bridge on the A8 near Zaanstad was scheduled to be operated for high shipping on Friday, July 11, 2025, for the first time since May 2021. Unfortunately, a technical issue was found in the material used for the spring buffer during the last tests.
The material does not meet the required quality. The spring buffer is the part of the bridge that acts as a shock absorber under the bridge deck and is crucial for the safe use of the bridge.
Replacement of the Coen Bridge Spring Buffer
At this moment, it is still unknown how long it will take to replace the spring buffer. Clarification will be provided as soon as possible. The principle here is that this replacement will be combined as efficiently as possible with other work, such as the installation of insulating cladding scheduled for September and October, or as soon as possible.
Until then, the bridge will remain closed, and the northern Standing Mast Route in North Holland will not be navigable. The Buitenhuizer Bridge has already been reopened. This means that the western Standing Mast Route in North Holland is navigable again.
