Rijkswaterstaat postpones the reinforcement of three dikes in the IJmuiden Locks Complex, originally scheduled to start in 2028, until the end of 2030. The personnel and resources freed up will be used for extra maintenance of the Spui and Pump Complex in IJmuiden.
The Spui and Pump Complex in IJmuiden is responsible for water drainage of a large part of Western Netherlands. The complex is significantly outdated and requires more maintenance in the coming years. With the extra focus on maintenance, we ensure that water drainage remains at the required level.
The reinforcement of the three dikes in the locks complex remains necessary but will happen later. Rijkswaterstaat monitors the dikes through inspections. The dike reinforcement is part of the national High Water Protection Program and must be completed before 2050 according to agreements.
