The Dorkwerder Bridge over the Van Starkenborgh Canal near Dorkwerd has been reopened for cyclists and pedestrians since Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Motorized traffic remains prohibited for now.

We are still investigating the extent and impact of the damage caused by the collision on Friday, November 7.

Safety First

Initial investigations show it is responsible to use the bridge with restrictions. Cyclists and pedestrians place minimal load on the bridge. For motorized vehicles, it is different: cars and trucks exert significantly more load.

Until we know exactly the extent of the damage and what it means for structural safety, motorized traffic will remain prohibited.

Further Investigation of Dorkwerder Bridge

Together with the contractor, we will conduct further research in the coming days into the structural condition of the bridge and the necessary repair measures. Once it is known when the bridge can fully reopen, we will communicate this immediately.

Detours for Dorkwerder Bridge

Motorized traffic can detour via the bridge at Aduard and the Noordzeebrug. Detour routes are indicated on site.
