After the weekend closure from February 27 to March 2, 2026, of the A9 between junction Badhoevedorp and junction Holendrecht, road users can use the widened A9 near Ouderkerk aan de Amstel from March 2. The widening covers approximately 4 km per lane direction.
Previously, almost every evening rush hour there was a traffic jam at the merging of the lanes from the two connecting bridges from the A2. The tail of this traffic jam also blocked the A2. Now that more lanes are available on the A9 near Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, this is expected to hardly occur anymore.
New noise barriers
In addition to the opening of the extra lanes, noise barriers have also been installed along this part of the route. In Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, no less than 5.8 km of new, partly higher, noise barriers have been realized.
Later in 2026, the second and also the definitive layer double-layer ZOAB fine asphalt will be applied. Together with the noise barriers, this asphalt ensures that the road becomes significantly quieter.
After the completion of the other parts of the project A9 Badhoevedorp-Holendrecht, part of the road expansion Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere, the flow on the entire stretch of the A9 between the Badhoevedorp and Holendrecht junctions will improve.
The widening of the A9 between the A4 and the viaduct over the Nieuwe Meerlaan in the Amsterdam Forest will be completed in April 2026. The sunken section through Amstelveen will follow at the end of 2028.
