Starting May 16, we will begin the second series of work weekends during which the asphalt on the A2 after the Leidsche Rijntunnel will be replaced. In total, there are two weekend closures towards Den Bosch; May 16 - 19 and May 23 - 26, 2025.
During these weekends, there will also be work on the A1 from Watergraafsmeer to junction Diemen. Therefore, we have extra traffic measures ready that can be deployed around the N201/Hilversum in the event of an emergency in or near the Gaasperdammertunnel.
Extra traffic measures to guide traffic
The extra traffic measures are ready to limit diversion traffic on the N201 and through Hilversum in the event of an emergency on the A9 or A2, and to ensure that emergency services can continue to pass.
Extra tow trucks are on standby on the N201, and together with the province and municipality of Hilversum, we can regulate traffic by adjusting the traffic lights. We will also place a message vehicle along the A2 indicating that there is severe traffic disruption near Hilversum, and there are nine traffic controllers on standby.
Parallel lane remains open for through traffic
We are replacing the roadway on the A2 between the Leidsche Rijntunnel and junction Oudenrijn because the asphalt has reached the end of its lifespan and no longer meets the noise standard. This means possible delays of 30 - 60 minutes for road users towards Den Bosch.
Through traffic can continue to use the parallel lane, but because the main lane is unavailable and work is being done in various places, we expect extra traffic pressure.
Although the work only takes place between the Leidsche Rijntunnel and Junction Oudenrijn, the main lane of the A2 is closed from Maarssen to Junction Oudenrijn. By closing the entire section, the work can be carried out safely and efficiently.
Major maintenance in Central Netherlands
Rijkswaterstaat has many maintenance projects throughout the country. Sometimes working simultaneously at different locations is therefore unavoidable. In May, in addition to the A2, work will also be done on the A27 towards Utrecht from junction Everdingen to Houten , the A1 from Watergraafsmeer to junction Diemen, and the A12 between Lunetten and Veenendaal.
We carefully coordinate the planning of the work to ensure that traffic continues to flow as smoothly as possible, but work also means detours and extra travel time.
Therefore, check your route on the website VanAnaarBeter before you leave, choose another time, or look for a smart travel option on the website Traffic Expectations . This way you can avoid delays and keep Central Netherlands accessible together.
