Since Monday, September 29, 2025, at 03:00 AM, the Traffic Center Netherlands (VCNL) and the Traffic Center Central Netherlands (VCMN) in Utrecht have been experiencing a power outage. This has consequences for road traffic and limited consequences for shipping. Efforts are being made to find a solution. Expect a busier evening rush hour in the Randstad.
Call to Road Users: Stay Alert
Due to the outage, it is not possible to close lanes with a red cross in case of a breakdown or accident. Spits lanes cannot be opened either.
We strongly advise road users around Utrecht to be extra alert. The advice is to keep attention on the road and adjust speed to the conditions. We expect the evening rush hour in the Randstad to be busier due to the closed spits lanes.
Measures Taken
To secure accidents, road inspectors from this region are being directed by other traffic centers and strategically deployed during the evening rush hour. We also have extra crash absorbers on standby to secure accidents more quickly.
Limited Consequences for Shipping
Shipping is experiencing limited consequences due to the outage. In various places, the internet and telephony have temporarily failed. Efforts are also being made here to find a solution.
