We are carrying out green maintenance along the Twente Canals, Meppelerdiep, and Zwarte Water from November 2025 to February 2026. We will remove sick or dead trees for safety reasons. We will plant new trees in their place, where possible in the same location.

Ensuring Safety

During the annual tree safety inspection by Rijkswaterstaat, specialists mapped approximately one hundred dead, sick, and unstable trees along the Twente Canals and twelve along the Meppelerdiep and Zwarte Water. The trees will be removed because they pose a risk to the environment. They can lose branches or fall over in strong winds or drought.

Replanting

We find a green living environment important. Therefore, in a later phase, we will replant new trees in the same locations where possible. If that is not possible, we will compensate for the trees as close as possible nearby.

Nesting Birds

The work will take place between November and February. This avoids the period from March to September, during which most birds nest. This way, we minimize disturbance to birds and other species as much as possible.

Disruption

During the work, we will use hand tools, such as chainsaws, and large machines, such as cranes and trucks. This may cause slight noise disturbance. For safety, we will place barriers where necessary during the work. Properties and homes will remain accessible to residents.
