In early 2024, the overflow dam near Bosscherveld failed, causing major issues for the residents. Actions were swiftly taken by Rijkswaterstaat, along with the contractor, to restore the dam within 11 months, allowing residents to return safely to their homes.

Urgent repairs began with temporary barriers to control the Maas water levels. A temporary ferry service replaced the damaged bridge. The collaborative efforts between Rijkswaterstaat and local partners ensured the completion of a new dam. This key restoration enabled continued safety in the area. Plans are also in place for further improvements to the local infrastructure.
