On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, Rijkswaterstaat and Heijmans organized a residents evening about the renovation of the Koninginnensluis. During the meeting in Nieuwegein, residents and interested parties were informed about the work, the schedule, and the impact of the project.
Presentation and Information Tables
The evening began with a presentation from representatives of Rijkswaterstaat and Heijmans. It explained which works would be carried out during the renovation, the schedule, necessary closures, and the permit procedure.
Visitors could then speak with experts at various information tables about the planning, design, and execution of the project. There were also tables about permits and green space planning.
The neighborhood coordinator for Vreeswijk from the municipality of Nieuwegein was present, Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden (HDSR) provided information about the Sterke Lekdijk project, and residents could discuss the WarmVreeswijk neighborhood initiative.
Feedback and Follow-up
The evening was well attended, with much interest in the various topics. Residents indicated they felt well involved in the project, a key objective for us. Some questions and comments will be incorporated into the plans and discussed with stakeholders.
We expect to organize a new information evening after the summer. Then, the schedule for the work and the layout of the site will be further developed and can be discussed with residents.
