The ferry terminals of Texel and Den Helder will undergo a new round of maintenance in the coming months. Rijkswaterstaat will have various components inspected, cleaned, and painted. Work will also continue next year.
At both ferry terminals, Rijkswaterstaat will address some corrosion. The hoisting towers will also be painted. This way, the ferry terminals will maintain a neater appearance in the coming years and the steel structures will be protected against the salty sea climate.
Additionally, the contractor will check the electricity, hinges, and other components of the installation. If something is broken, it will be repaired. New bulkheads and piles will also be added to the landing facilities and maintenance quay.
The Ferry Service Remains Operational
Most work will be done during the day. Walkers and cyclists may experience some inconvenience due to partial closures on the traffic bridge during cleaning or painting work. The ferry service will remain accessible and continue to operate. Work that cannot be performed during ferry service will be done at night, so it does not disrupt travelers. We will start in Texel and then continue in Den Helder. Weather permitting, the contractor will work until November this year. Maintenance will continue next year as well.
Major Maintenance of the Ferry Terminals
Rijkswaterstaat regularly inspects and maintains the ferry terminals of Texel and Den Helder. Previously, we replaced the hoisting cables, among other things. With maintenance, we ensure that the ferry terminals remain safe to use until we eventually replace both landing facilities.
