In mid-February 2025, Rijkswaterstaat removed the monumental gates on the central island of the Muntsluis. Over the past months, significant work has been done to restore the gate structure in a workshop in Bleskensgraaf.
Restoration
The gate structure, with historical and cultural value, contributes to the character of the Muntsluis environment. This means that it cannot simply be replaced. Therefore, we have chosen to restore the gate structure. The gate structure has been sandblasted, repaired, and repainted. The parts that could not be restored have been replaced, preserving the original appearance.
Reinstallation
From May 7, 2025, the restored gate structure will be reinstalled. This will take until early June. The work will take place from Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. During the work, the sluice complex remains accessible for cyclists and walkers. Recreation in the recreation area remains possible within opening hours. However, there may be noise and dust disturbances.
