Reliable information is essential for safe and smooth navigation on Dutch waterways. Therefore, Rijkswaterstaat continues to improve the Vaarweginformatie website.
On August 5, 2025, the 2nd major update went live. Following the renewal at the end of 2024, the website Vaarweginformatie has now been further adjusted based on user experiences and technical developments.
What’s new?
- The message page is clearer, with handy filters. It also works better on mobile.
- Messages on the map are now clearly readable on all devices, from desktop to mobile.
- The detail pages of shipping, water, and ice messages have been made more compact and clearer.
- The operation times calendar has been adjusted: the times are now clearly displayed per schedule block and are more readable, even for short operation blocks and on mobile phones.
- Applying for permits and exemptions is now also findable via vaarweginformatie.nl.
‘We believe it is important that vaarweginformatie.nl is as complete and user-friendly as possible. Therefore, we listen carefully to users experiences and adapt the website accordingly. Thanks to their input, the information provision is increasingly better aligned with what they need,’ says Marcel Donker, project leader from Operational Development Water & Shipping (OOWS).
More improvements will follow later in 2025. For example, we are working on improving the detail pages of locks and bridges. This will make it possible to see all information at a glance, even on mobile phones.
Faster and smoother navigation
In addition to the content updates, the Vaarweginformatie website has become faster since April 2025 thanks to a technical update. This allows users to navigate faster and find information.
With these updates, we provide professional and recreational navigation with even better and more accessible information.
