Rijkswaterstaat will begin work in the autumn of 2025 on the intersection of the N518 and the crown path of the dike around Marken.
At the dike reinforcement in Marken, a new crossing for pedestrians and cyclists will be created. This place is also known as the cross in Marken. Here, the provincial connecting road and the path on top of the dike intersect. The contractor has applied for a permit to construct the new crossing.
Traffic Safe Crossing
The crossing will be adjusted to ensure it is safe according to national rules and guidelines. A refuge island will be placed between the two lanes. The crossing will be made more visible to cars. The maximum speed at the intersection will also be reduced to 50 km/h. Fences will be placed on the path on top of the dike for cyclists, requiring them to dismount or reduce speed.
Work Planning
The work is expected to start in October 2025 and will last approximately 3 months. During the work, there will be partial road closures, reducing space on the road, but Marken will always remain accessible.
Cables and Pipelines
Preparatory work is already taking place at the intersection. Network operator Liander is relocating cables and pipelines.
