Today we reached an important milestone in the A27 Houten - Hooipolder program. In Hoogblokland at the Groote Haar construction site, Rijkswaterstaat and the contractor combination ALSÉÉN signed the execution agreement for the A27 Lexmond - Gorinchem section.
Martin Wijnen, Director-General of Rijkswaterstaat, Wouter van der Bijl, General Manager Infrastructure, Fluor Corporation, and Sander Lefevre (Member of the Board, Ballast Nedam) signed the agreement allowing the execution for the Lexmond - Gorinchem road section to start.
Works Lexmond - Gorinchem
The project Approach Poor Subsoil Lexmond - Gorinchem is geographically located between the Lexmond junction and the Gorinchem interchange, part of the A27 Houten - Hooipolder program. The assignment involves widening approximately 12 km of highway (2x2 lanes) with a rush hour lane per direction.
The section is characterized by a weak subsoil, with various underpasses, viaducts, and culverts, and a new connection for the Groote Haar industrial estate to be realized by the municipality of Gorinchem.
Two-phase approach
In the A27 Houten - Hooipolder program, we and ALSÉÉN work with a two-phase approach. In this approach, the final price for risky program components is jointly determined by the contractor and us during a phased design process leading to a Definitive Design (1st phase).
The design process started early 2023. Now that the execution order has been given, the execution of the works (2nd phase) will start early 2026. The realization of this part of the highway including rush hour lanes is expected to be completed by mid-2029. For this part, a maintenance phase is also contracted until 2041.
Martin Wijnen, Director-General Rijkswaterstaat: ‘I consider it an honor and a pleasure to sign this two-phase certificate today together with ALSÉÉN. With this, we take another big step in one of the most complex, impactful, and challenging infrastructure projects in our country. Now on to a successful execution.’
Wouter van der Bijl (Fluor): ‘From ALSÉÉN we are pleased that, after an intensive and constructive design and preparation process by the teams of ALSÉÉN and Rijkswaterstaat, the Certificate ‘Lexmond – Gorinchem’ has been signed. This marks the start of the execution phase for the entire corridor from the Gorinchem interchange to the Everdingen interchange as part of the A27 Houten - Hooipolder project.’
‘A positive signal to the environment and stakeholders and above all a compliment to everyone involved. We wish everyone much success with the execution.’
