Public Works and Water Management urges road users who wish to participate in the National Commemoration on Sunday, May 4, to find a parking spot well in advance and not to stop on the emergency lane. This is dangerous and not allowed.
On May 3 and 4, the text ‘Safe commemoration? Find a P. Not on the emergency lane!’ will be displayed on electronic boards above and along the highway. Those traveling around 8:00 PM and wishing to participate in the National Commemoration should do so safely and find a parking spot in time.
Stopping is not an alternative
Stopping on the emergency lane is not an alternative. It is not allowed and is also very unsafe. Especially leaving and merging onto the highway from the emergency lane can create dangerous situations, as other traffic is moving at full speed. Moreover, the emergency lane must remain clear for emergencies and rescue services.
Safe commemoration
Since 2008, we have been using electronic boards above and along the highways where possible to alert road users about safe commemoration. This is done at the request of the National Committee May 4 and 5. Public Works and Water Management aims to contribute to safe commemoration while on the road.
