Starting Sunday afternoon, June 22, 2025, the Public Works and Water Management will completely or partially close several (motor)ways in the Randstad for traffic due to the NATO summit. This has major consequences for the accessibility of the Randstad.
A flash survey shows that over 90 percent of people are aware of this, but at the same time, nearly three-quarters of respondents indicate that they will not adjust their travel behavior in the week of the NATO summit.
Flash Survey
The fact that road users will not adjust their travel behavior is evident from a flash survey we conducted in the lead-up to the summit among a group of road users driving in the Randstad. If people do not adjust their travel behavior, the roads in the Randstad will become completely congested. Not only the highways but also the municipal and provincial roads. We are very concerned about this.
Call to Road Users During NATO Summit
The results of this flash survey are a reason to once again call on road users to adjust their travel behavior from Sunday afternoon, June 22, to Thursday, June 26. This means specifically:
- If you do not need to be in the Randstad, avoid it.
- Use public transport and bicycles as much as possible.
- Work from home if possible.
If you must travel in the Randstad, prepare your trip well. For the consequences for the highways, visit the page NATO Summit 2025: consequences for road traffic. For the consequences for other roads, check the website of your own municipality or province.
Only if everyone who can adjust their travel behavior will we prevent the Randstad from becoming completely congested during the week of the NATO summit.
