Rijkswaterstaat warns of a very busy Wednesday morning rush hour due to heavy snowfall. The KNMI expects widespread winter precipitation on Wednesday with 3 to 7 cm of snow in many places. The wind will also increase in strength, which can cause poor visibility during snow showers.

We therefore urge road users to work from home where possible.

Advice to road users

  • Check weather and traffic information before departure. Via the website Rijkswaterstaat Traffic Information we share the current situation on the road.
  • If you are going out, adjust your driving style to the conditions.
  • Keep sufficient distance.
  • Do not change lanes unnecessarily.
  • And give space to gritters and snowplows.

Tuesday evening rush hour

The Tuesday evening rush hour is expected to be similar to the morning rush hour. There will be persistent slipperiness due to freezing of wet road sections and snow residues.

Deployment of anti-slip measures

We are still working hard to combat slipperiness. All gritters and snowplows have been deployed and will continue until all highways are clear.

To combat slipperiness, we deploy 577 gritters (which can also be equipped with a snowplow if necessary), 630 snowplows and 1500 people.

In special circumstances, such as ice glaze and ice formation, we can deploy emergency machines like the Lavastorm and Firestorm. These machines are used, for example, to combat ice patches on the road. Recently, these machines were deployed around Utrecht.

On the website Rijkswaterstaatstrooit you can see where the gritters are driving and where spreading has taken place. The site also shows how much salt has been spread.
