On 16 February 2026, Rijkswaterstaat published the European tender for the construction of ten new noise barriers in Southern Netherlands (SN). This project, part of the national Multi-Year Noise Abatement Program (MJPG), aims to reduce noise nuisance along national roads in Limburg and North Brabant.

Traffic noise along national roads can cause nuisance to residents. Noise barriers are an effective measure to reduce this nuisance. Throughout the Netherlands, 150 noise barriers are being installed within the MJPG to improve the quality of life near national roads.

Noise barriers in Southern Netherlands

Between 2027 and 2030, a total of 52 noise barriers will be constructed in Southern Netherlands. The tender for the MJPG SN 2027/2028 covers the first phase in Southern Netherlands:

  • 2028: two noise barriers in North Brabant

The remaining noise barriers, which fall under MJPG SN 2, will be tendered later. We expect to publish this follow-up tender in 2028.
