Lock 13 on the Zuid-Willemsvaart near Someren will open earlier than planned. The planned closure due to a defect in the door hinges was supposed to last until June 1. From Friday, May 16, 2025, the lock will be operational again.
Greater damage than expected
In December 2024, it was announced that the lock needed to be closed due to damage to the hinge pins and hinges. Because the damage was greater than thought in December and more time was needed for repairs, the closure was extended from March 1 to June 1, 2025.
Last week, the doors were reinstalled, and after a series of successful tests, the lock can be used again.
Major maintenance in 2026
In 2026, Rijkswaterstaat will begin large-scale maintenance on various locks in the Brabant and Limburg canals, including Lock 13. This will ensure the reliability and availability of the waterway in the long term.
