The Haringvliet Bridge (A29) has experienced three malfunctions since Sunday, May 11, 2025. To determine the cause, the bridge was closed to road traffic for several hours on Friday evening, May 23, in addition to a blockage for high shipping.
The bridge was opened and closed multiple times, and during this testing process, it was found that the malfunction was in the bridges software that controls the two main motors. The issue was resolved by implementing a slight delay in the software, after which the system responded correctly again.
Openings for High Shipping
On Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28, the bridge will be opened for high shipping at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, and 15:00. The bridge will also be opened at these times even if there are no ships wishing to pass, in order to test as much as possible in a normal situation.
Given the inconvenience caused to the (shipping) road users, a technician will be present on the bridge during all openings on Tuesday, May 27, and Wednesday, May 28. This technician can reset the bridge in case of a malfunction, allowing traffic to flow quickly again.
