Due to a technical defect in the control mechanism, the Schinkel Bridge on the A10 South will not be operated until further notice. As a result, vessels taller than the clearance height of the closed bridge cannot pass. There is no obstruction for road traffic on the A10: the bridges remain accessible.
At this moment, it is not yet known when the malfunction will be resolved. An investigation is being conducted into what is needed to safely operate the bridges again. Unfortunately, we cannot provide an expected end date in advance of the conclusions.
Clearance height of Schinkel Bridge
The bridge height of the closed bridge is 6.35 m NAP. The clearance height in the closed position must be calculated relative to the target level (-0.61 m NAP). Please note that the actual clearance height may differ from this standard value. Therefore, calculate the actual clearance height using the current water level.
On the download page of Navigation Information, a document is available with further explanation: Questions and answers about clearance heights at bridges.
No alternative route available
Sailing ships with a mast height above the clearance height of the closed bridge cannot pass the Schinkel Bridge. Due to the closed Schiphol Bridge and Buitenhuizer Bridge, there is no alternative route available for tall masts.
Be prepared to go on the water
Safe sailing requires good preparation. Current information about bridge operations, planned and unplanned disruptions, and obstructions on the waterways can be found on the website Navigation Information .
