Due to a collision with an inland vessel, the Weert City Bridge is closed indefinitely for shipping traffic. Motorized and bicycle traffic can still cross the bridge. The bridge is managed by the municipality of Weert and operated by Rijkswaterstaat.
Collision with inland vessel
On Wednesday, 5 November 2025, an inland vessel collided with the Weert City Bridge. An investigation is underway to determine how this happened. Damage occurred to the cables and pulleys of the bridge, causing it to hang partially crooked.
After the collision, the bridge was briefly closed to road traffic. It can now be used again by motorized vehicles and cyclists. The bridge remains closed for shipping traffic.
Detours are possible via the Meuse River and Belgium.
Duration of closure
It is still unknown how long the closure for shipping traffic will last. Once more information is available, shipping traffic will be informed. Motorized and bicycle traffic can safely use the bridge because the main load-bearing structure of the bridge is not damaged.
We will investigate the extent of the damage next week. After that, we can provide more information about the repairs and expected duration of the closure.
