The schedule for the replacement of the first A44 viaduct is known. This was also shared during the information meetings for residents and entrepreneurs. The work will start in October 2025, at the Lisserweg viaduct and in the vicinity of the Kaagbrug. This will have consequences for residents and businesses in the area.
Replacement of the Lisserweg Viaduct
Starting in October 2025, the underpass of the Lisserweg viaduct will be closed to all traffic. Additionally, there will be no traffic allowed on the south side of the viaduct between Lisserweg and Kaagweg. A special lane will be available for emergency services and farmers, the target lane. Cyclists will have to detour via Dr. Heijelaan. Cyclists between Roelofarendsveen and Lisse will experience a maximum of 9 minutes of extra travel time. The A44 will remain available, with the same number of lanes. This is possible because a bypass will be constructed: a diversion of the road over a temporary viaduct.
In March 2026, the A44 towards Amsterdam will be closed for 9 days. The Lisserweg viaduct will then be demolished, lifted out of the way, and removed. After that, the construction of the new viaduct will be completed. Contractor Combinatie A44 shared during the meetings that the replacement will be completed faster than previously planned, namely in April 2026. This is due to a smart construction method being applied.
Preparation for the Replacement of the Kaagbrug
In October 2025, preparatory work will also begin at the Kaagbrug, although construction there will not start until 2027. Ultimately, the road will be slightly shifted to the south. However, the subsoil of the new road section must first settle and stabilize for 1.5 years. The bike path will also be relocated and partially closed starting in October, but the Kaagbrug will remain available for all traffic. A detour will be in effect between the bridge and the Hoofdvaart viaduct until mid-2027.
Good Attendance at Meetings
The meetings for residents and entrepreneurs were well attended. Visitors asked sharp questions and actively participated in discussions about the plans and the impact of the work. Frequently asked questions, such as those regarding construction traffic, accessibility, and bike detours, can be found on the project website .
Project Website and Newsletter
Before the summer, there will be an additional meeting for all interested parties. The date is not yet set, and it will be announced via the A44 newsletter. You can sign up for this digital newsletter through the project website. There you will find all information about the work and the corresponding closures and detours.
