The Dutch infrastructure sector is preparing for the future. Important societal issues regarding climate change, resource use, population growth, increasing mobility, and the major renewal tasks of roads, waterways, bridges, tunnels, and locks require new ways of collaboration.
The Taskforce Infra (TFI) is the platform of Rijkswaterstaat and market parties that addresses these issues. The new website Taskforce Infra provides all information about the activities of the TFI.
Collaboration is Key
The Taskforce Infra is an example of the new way of collaboration needed to tackle the collective challenges facing the infrastructure sector. With five working groups (Advisory Group Market and Asset Management, Sustainability Working Group, Integral Major Maintenance Working Group, Production Continuity and Monitoring Working Group, Procurement Planning Working Group) and the Replacement and Renovation Platform (PVR), the TFI works together on concrete and targeted solutions.
‘With the Taskforce Infra and the working groups, we are developing thoughtful advice to execute the tasks we face more quickly and intelligently,’ says Remco Hoeboer, CEO of Mobilis.
Background of Taskforce Infra
The TFI was established during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The question of how the sector could maintain sufficient work during the pandemic was central. The collaboration was successful, after which the TFI continued to support the goals of the transition program ‘Towards a Vital Infrastructure Sector’ between 2021-2023.
The collaboration aimed at a financially healthy sector together, using knowledge and expertise while allowing for innovation and learning. This has also led to the initiation and experimentation with, among other things, the two-phase approach, portfolio approach, Collaboration in Maintenance (SIO), and an Integral Project Management (IPM) Team.
In 2025, the focus of the TFI is primarily on supporting the increase in production, continuing and expanding collaboration in Asset Management, and integrating Industrial Automation and sustainability into the civil engineering production. ‘We need the Taskforce Infra to effectively tackle the challenges we face as a sector,’ says Roger Mol, chairman of the Taskforce Infra and Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) of Rijkswaterstaat.
