Rijkswaterstaat urges road users across the country to be aware of slippery conditions due to snow, snow residues, and freezing of wet road sections on Friday afternoon, evening, and Saturday morning (January 9 and 10). Travel well prepared and adjust your driving style to the conditions.
KNMI Forecast
The snow front located over the northern part of the country on Friday morning, January 9, will spread over the rest of the country during the afternoon. The KNMI expects a few centimeters of snow.
During the night from Friday, January 9 to Saturday morning, January 10, it will gradually become dry from the north. This means that road users across the country must continue to expect winter conditions until Saturday morning.
Slippery road control
We continue with slippery road control and deploy all equipment. In total, 577 gritters, 630 snow plows, and 3 emergency vehicles operate throughout the country, with 1,500 people working to keep the highways snow-free.
On Friday morning, January 9, we deployed 190 vehicles to combat slipperiness in the three northern provinces. Despite orange code, the morning rush hour in the north was calm with few incidents.
Advice to road users
- Check weather and traffic information before departure. Via the website Rijkswaterstaat Traffic Information, we share the current road situation.
- Adjust your driving style to the conditions, keep sufficient distance, and avoid unnecessary lane changes.
- Give gritters and snow plows space.
