On Saturday, June 21, 2025, the construction consortium ALSÉÉN and Rijkswaterstaat will open the gates of the construction site at Het Gat near the Hooipolder interchange in Raamsdonksveer during the national Day of Construction.
A unique opportunity for a behind-the-scenes look at the construction site of the Improvement A27 Houten - Hooipolder project where 2 new underpasses are under construction. The Day of Construction is from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Registration in advance is mandatory and can be done via the website A27 Houten - Hooipolder .
Artwork on an artwork
During the open day, there will be plenty to see and do for young and old at the construction site. For children, there is an exciting treasure hunt around the area, a large sandbox with toys, and a special coloring page.
You can also leave your own artwork. With sidewalk chalk, you can draw on the outside of the concrete underpass, a tunnel that will soon find a place on the A27. The outside of this underpass will soon disappear into the ground next to the highway. This way, you create a piece of art on an artwork, hidden under the A27. Of course, you can also walk in here. A unique opportunity, as this will soon be a piece of highway where only motor traffic is allowed.
Large construction equipment
There will also be various information stands where experts from the construction consortium ALSÉÉN and Rijkswaterstaat will explain the project. You will see how the sliding system works that will position the underpasses in place, and you can watch videos, animations, and a timelapse of the work done so far.
Of course, large construction equipment will also be on display: a concrete pump, a concrete mixer, an electric truck, and large cranes will be on view up close. Additionally, a part of the carnival float from Raamsdonk will be on display near the Hooipolder interchange.
Registration in advance
During the Day of Construction, there is a limited number of places available. Therefore, there are time slots for which one can register with a maximum of 5 people. Unfortunately, spontaneous visits are not possible.
There is a limited number of parking spaces available. Therefore, try to come as much as possible by bike. The walking route goes over a construction site and is unpaved. The route is not suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Dogs are not allowed on the construction site.
Improvement A27 Houten - Hooipolder
On the A27 between the Hooipolder interchange and Houten, long traffic jams occur daily. Therefore, we will widen and renew the A27 over a length of 47 km in the coming years. Four large bridges will also be renovated, rush hour lanes will be constructed, and approximately 60 viaducts and culverts for waterways will be modified. This way, traffic will flow better in the future, and livability will improve due to fewer traffic jams and diversion traffic in the region.
