Today, RIVM bids farewell to Director-General Prof. Professor (Professor) Dr. Ir. Hans Brug. As of January 1, 2026, he has been appointed Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Utrecht University (UU).

With his departure, RIVM says goodbye after more than seven years to a dedicated, skilled, and approachable Director-General. The institute is also pleased that in his new role, he will continue to commit to creating and applying scientific knowledge and innovation for society.

The recruitment of the new Director-General of RIVM is not yet complete. In the meantime, Sicco Louw, Chief Financial Officer/Director of Operations/Deputy Director-General, will temporarily fulfill the role.
