In 2024, one in six adults reported having experienced tooth or dental pain. This is one of the results published today by the CBS Central Bureau for Statistics (Central Bureau for Statistics) regarding oral health in the Netherlands. Furthermore, adults who brush their teeth twice a day or more often experience less tooth or dental pain and bleeding gums than those who brush less frequently. They also report better oral health.
The figures come from the 2024 Health Survey. The full news article can be found on the CBS website (external link).
Monitor Oral Health
The RIVM monitors developments in oral health with the Oral Health Monitor. The monitor is still in development, and a new report and update will follow in November on the VZinfo.nl website (external link). This includes the new information from the CBS Central Bureau for Statistics (Central Bureau for Statistics) Health Survey. The monitor examines, for example, the reasons why people have not visited the dentist or dental hygienist for more than a year (or never). It also shows to what extent people have experienced pain in their mouth or bleeding gums.
