Five Dutch innovative projects together receive €11.5 million from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Transition program of Horizon Europe. The projects focus on breakthroughs in quantum computers, cancer medicines, and weather forecasting.
Subsidy from European Innovation Council (EIC)
The projects come from the first round of 2025 of the EIC Transition program. The European Innovation Council of Horizon Europe supports companies from fundamental research to start-ups and scale-ups.
Winning Projects
The 5 winning Dutch projects are:
ACCESS
Start-up Delmic Cryo, together with Swiss and Belgian partners, develops a new generation of affordable cryogenic electron microscopes for drug research. This revolutionary imaging technique visualizes biological samples, such as proteins and viruses, in 3D at atomic level. They use advanced algorithms to accelerate new drug research.
NANOCAR
Start-up Nanocell Therapeutics works on a breakthrough in immunotherapy. In immunotherapy, immune cells are taken from the patient, activated in a lab, and then returned to the patient to fight cancer. NanoCell Therapeutics develops a method to activate immune cells inside the patient. This saves time and costs, making immunotherapy available to many more patients.
RE-CLIQS
Scale-up Quantware develops interchangeable chiplet-to-chiplet connections for the quantum processor of quantum computers. This breakthrough helps in making scalable quantum computers.
SIRENA
The University of Twente develops a new type of chips for AI applications based on nano-electronics. These chips consume 100x less energy and 100x less space than current chips, making them cheaper and better for the environment. The semiconductor start-up CirQuiX will bring this technology to market.
TAILOR
Start-up Beyond Weather builds AI technology for more specialized and reliable weather forecasts. Their models predict weather beyond 10 days ahead. This supports better decision-making in extreme weather, energy, and climate resilience.
