During the Benelux eInvoicing Study Day, government, business, and IT representatives from the 3 Benelux countries discussed cross-border e-invoicing. Goal: better collaboration and concrete follow-up steps. Participants shared practical experiences regarding rules, standards, and technology. With that input, the countries are working on solutions.
The meeting was organized by the Knowledge Center for e-procurement, with support from the 3 Benelux countries. According to Davina Wielandt, coordinator of the Knowledge Center, the setup was intentionally practical. “We did not want to just talk about policy and regulations, but rather gather what is happening in practice. How do entrepreneurs and governments currently work with e-invoicing?”
During the study day, we worked together on solutions to make the cross-border exchange of digital invoices and procurement messages simpler and more uniform. “An important point that emerged is the need for one international standard, with only sector-specific additions where truly necessary,” says Wieke Zwagemaker, stakeholder manager at the Knowledge Center for e-procurement (RVO).
The outcomes of the day have now been compiled into a final report. This forms the basis for the Benelux multi-year program. “As the first concrete follow-up action, we will start establishing sector working groups,” explains Davina. “These will conduct in-depth research per sector into wishes and obstacles regarding e-invoicing.”
The approach is not only intended to improve mutual cooperation but also to provide input for European policy-making. “By collecting practical experiences in the Benelux, we can also contribute to European policy-making on behalf of the Benelux,” says Wieke.
