On Sunday, April 13, Expo Osaka 2025 opens. The world exhibition will take place for 6 months in Osaka, Japan. The Netherlands is participating with its own circularly built pavilion under the theme ‘Common Ground’. In addition to the Pavilion, there is an extensive program for Dutch companies, knowledge institutions, and organizations. The aim of the program is to get acquainted with Japan and establish new international contacts.
Promising Sectors
The extensive Dutch program includes themed weeks around promising sectors. Think of sectors such as energy, food, health, and tech. There is also a cultural program featuring work by Dutch artists. The Netherlands is organizing 6 trade missions. You can still register for some. View the offer here. On April 22, Prime Minister Schoof will officially open the Dutch pavilion during his visit to Japan.
Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Reinette Klever: Expo 2025 is a unique opportunity for Dutch companies and knowledge institutes to present their expertise to a large international audience. With their innovative power, the business community is crucial for solving global challenges, for example around food security and health.
Theme ‘Common Ground’
The theme of the Dutch pavilion refers to the relationship the Netherlands has with water. Our location, partly below sea level, has taught us to work together. Now that we face new challenges in 2025, cooperation is once again important. Especially at an international level. The Netherlands therefore invites Japan – and other countries – to step onto ‘common ground’. This way we can work together on solutions.
Harnessing the Power of Nature
Central to the pavilion are 10 Dutch innovations that all harness the power of nature. Examples include growing fish from cells (Upstream Foods), using waves from the sea to generate electricity (Weco), and self-steering boats for fast and clean transport (Roboat).
Expo 2025 Osaka is open from April 13 to October 13, 2025. Approximately 160 countries and organizations are participating. The Expo organization expects to welcome more than 28 million visitors.
