In May, during a bilateral summit in London between the United Kingdom (UK) and the EU, new trade agreements were made. These agreements could eventually make it easier for Dutch entrepreneurs to export to the UK.
At the summit in London in May, the President of the European Commission (Ursula von der Leyen), the President of the European Council (António Costa), and the British Prime Minister (Keir Starmer) made agreements on several issues. These agreements are also relevant for Dutch entrepreneurs exporting to the UK.
Here are a few examples of topics that were discussed:
- Mutual access to waters for fishermen (from 2026 to 2038)
- Tariff-free trade in steel products
- Intention to work on an agreement regarding sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) controls
- More cooperation in the field of energy
- Better access to procurement projects
- Linking emission trading systems
Many agreements made during this bilateral summit are a starting point for further negotiations at a later time. Therefore, for Dutch entrepreneurs exporting to the UK, there is no immediate change to the current agreements in the existing trade agreement.
Thus, the sanitary and phytosanitary controls for medium and high risk remain mandatory. Read more about it on our website.
