The focus is on expanding container and port capacity, improving intermodal freight transport by rail, and building gas pipelines.

Additionally, the Rio Indio Reservoir Project will create a large water reservoir that widens the Panama Canal and drains excess water. It will also improve the water supply for 4 million Panamanians.

The strategic location of Panama plays a key role in global goods transportation. The Panama Canal handles 2.5% of global shipping. Due to recent drought, there has been less passage through the canal. However, investments in other transport means and ports show that Panama is resilient.
